Dear Parishioners and Friends of Mission Dolores,
We have much to be thankful for at Mission Dolores Basilica. Our parish has a rich history of worship, prayer, evangelization, service, and community for over 248 years. Our welcoming church is a place where we live the intense presence of God and many of life’s most important experiences, whether it be through the Mass or other sacraments, our faith formation programs, the parish school, or our diverse communities and ministries. It is such a blessing to be your pastor and witness each day how our community of missionary disciples lives out the Church’s mission.
Every year more than 200,000 people around the world visit the Mission and teachers bring more than 5,000 students to the Mission to learn firsthand what roles the missions played in the founding of San Francisco and California. Mission Dolores is more than just a landmark and museum.
Today, Mission Dolores, guided by the same spirit of selflessness of the first missionaries, is making important and lasting contributions to the well-being of the community and city.
Currently, the church has two restrooms for male and female. The number of
restrooms on the site is not enough for the increasing number of visitors. The Project proposes to remodel and enlarge the existing restroom facility with more urinals
and toilets with ADA, new walls, partitions, fixtures, roof tiles and an expanded foundation.
For these reasons, after thorough discernment and consultation, we are embarking on a capital campaign to raise $350,000 - $450,000, that will allow us to be more responsive to our parish needs and mission.
The brochure shares the necessary plans to ensure that we raise the funds necessary to maintain God’s house and continue to grow God’s Kingdom here at Mission Dolores Basilica. Whether you are visiting and new to Mission Dolores Basilica or have been here from the beginning, I ask you to prayerfully reflect on how you have been blessed by this parish. I invite you to prayerfully consider how you are able to contribute your financial gifts to this crucial effort for our parish and join with me in praying for the success of our campaign. Sacrificial giving is an expression of our faith and a way to put our faith into action.
The Suggested Gift Chart details pledges ranging from $2,500 to $150,000, payable over five years. That is less than one dollar and a half per day over 60 months. This wide range of gift opportunities makes it possible for virtually every family to take part in the program.
Time will be set aside during all Masses on the weekend of June 8th and 9th for the faithful of Mission Dolores Basilica to make your pledge. Please bring your completed card, or be prepared to complete a pledge card at Mass.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous support for our parish as we look to the future with hope and continue to build the Kingdom of God.
Yours in Christ through Mary,
Fr. Francis Garbo
